Waveney Sailability - Frequently Asked Questions

Where? Oulton Broad, Suffolk.

When? Tuesday afternoons.

Sailing experience required?
None.

What gear do I need?
Just casual clothes with a woolly or a fleece to keep you warm. We will supply buoyancy aids and waterproofs. Trainers are the most suitable foot ware.

Who is eligible?
All disabled people who are able to operate a single control stick. We have specially designed and adapted boats that are very difficult to tip up, simple to use, and are really good fun. At other centres members compete on equal terms in local sailing club events, and many win races.

What if I cannot get myself into a dinghy?
A hoist is available to transfer sailors from wheelchair to boat if required.

Instructors?
All instructors are RYA qualified and are members of the Oulton Broad Water Sports Centre. Many of our volunteersare also trained to use personnel hoist and facilitites. If you are an experienced sailor we can arrange for you to go on a free course to become an instructor, we already have four trained disabled instructors.

What if I am not sure about sailing?
Come along and try the experience of sailing - at no cost. If after the first two free sessions you wish to continue sailing you will be invited to become a
member of Waveney Sailability.
