A great year for Photographs
David Collins - 20/01/09
2009 WAS A YEAR of great photographic opportunities and I like to think I have made the best of it on each occasion. However like most photographers I often think a different view or different composition could have improved the shot.
I haven't counted, but my guess would be in excess of 700 shots taken but then pruned down to perhaps 300. If I was asked to pick one shot that I felt summed up the year it would be the one opposite. Not because the light was perfect, it was difficult, or the shooting point was ideal, it would have been better with the clubhouse in the background.
However the shot shows that a small group of determined individuals supported by a dedicated team of volunteers can achieve much if they work together. I get a lot of satisfaction from photography, a hobby for almost 60 years, and the pictures I take for Waveney Sailability are some of my favourites after, of course, shots of my four grand children.
If you would like copies of any that appear in Newsability or that you think I may have on file please ask. I can get good quality prints from 4 x 6 up to 16 x 18, starting at 12p and 12 x 18 is only 3.50 or if you want a poster 20 x 30 the cost is 15.50.
I would like to start a photographic competition in 2010 and professional photographer Alan ONeill, who produced our DVD The Right to Sail, has agreed to be the judge. The best shots over a period will appear in Newsability and the best shot of the season will receive a mounted and framed 12 x 10, or similar, copy of their photograph.
