Waveney Sailability - Sailing Information
Waveney Sailability uses 'Access' Dinghies as an easy to sail craft for people who are disabled. The 2.3 versions have a main sail only whilst the 303's are a larger version fitted with two sails and can be sailed by one or two people.
Unlike conventional sailing dinghies, the sailor sits in a hammock forward facing seat and the dinghy is steered using a simple joystick. In addition the weighted centerboard and floatation tanks provide stability and makes the 'Access' dinghy virtually unable to tip over.
A larger boat, called a Squib keel boat, to take out those who may not be able to sail independently, and their helpers, is available with a skipper and crew.
Testimonials
"It was a bit scary because the boat is quite low down, but it was great fun and I'd do it again."
Doris Quinlan at the Waveney Sailability Open Day.
