A fine sunny day with a fair wind which saw over 40 boats on the Broad so this was a great experience for our sailors and well done to those who took part and sailed in some fairly challenging conditions at times. There were three races with two to count.
Eight Sailability boats entered but after initially leading the first race, Jerry injured his knee and pulled out of the event. Tony sailed consistently to win the first two races and won overall with Vic winning the third race after two second places to come second overall.
The overall results were: Tony Barkes, Vic Pennell, Owen Boar, Steve Sims, Debra Atwell, Sophia Adams with Christine Stewart. Jerry Ballam and Jim Smith reired after the first race.
t seemed everyone enjoyed their last sail of the season – whether first or last. Even Debra who came in with a lot of water at the end of the second race (she blamed Steve), but with true grit she dried out the boat with some help from volunteers and raced in the third race beating Steve.
We would like to thank WOBYC for allowing us to “gate crash” their Regatta and hopefully this might become an annual event to round off our Season!
Particular thanks to our land crew volunteers – led by Derek Pearce with assistance from Christine Steward, John Ward, Hugh Sims, Mike and Carol Jeffrey, Jerry and Owen who helped to launch the boats in the morning and Peter Watkins and Jonathan Blankley who helped to put the boats to bed after the racing.
